In light of the ongoing inquiries into the gunshot at the campaign event, an official announced that Donald Trump has consented to be interviewed as part of an FBI investigation into the murder attempt against the former US president.
The FBI’s Pittsburgh field office chief, special agent Kevin Rojek, stated on Monday that the organization wishes “to get [Trump’s] perspective on what he observed.” The Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee and former president has consented to participate in a typical victim’s interview, which Rojek assured reporters “will be consistent with any victim interview we do.”

After being shot in the ear during a July 13 rally in Pennsylvania, Trump—who has been vocal in his criticism of the FBI—sparked outcry and raised concerns about the security protocols in place prior to the event.
According to witnesses, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old accused gunman, set up shop on a rooftop with a clear view of the rally stage. Two rally attendees suffered critical injuries, and one rally participant lost their life.
FBI authorities stated at Monday’s briefing that they were still in the process of determining the shooting’s motive.
However, they claimed that Crooks had looked up information online about previous mass shootings, homemade explosives, and the May murder attempt on the prime minister of Slovakia.
Congress has pushed the nation’s law enforcement agencies to provide an explanation of their security measures in the lead-up to the Trump rally shooting, which the FBI has stated it is looking into as a possible assassination attempt and act of “domestic terrorism.”
FBI Director Christopher Wray stated last week in a congressional hearing that the organization will investigate the incident thoroughly, leaving “no stone unturned.”
Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle resigned the day before due to intense public pressure on the event.
“I fully accept responsibility for the security breach,” she said to the team via email. “It is with heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director in light of recent events.”
