The new British government is set to host its first international investment summit on October 14, featuring prominent executives from leading companies such as Google, Wayve, and Brookfield Asset Management. This summit aims to enhance foreign direct investment in the UK, a key objective for Prime Minister Keir Starmer since he assumed office in July.
The event will showcase notable speakers, including Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google; Alex Kendall, CEO of Wayve; and Bruce Flatt, CEO of Brookfield Asset Management. The summit will be sponsored by major financial institutions, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, M&G, Octopus Energy, and TSL Group.
According to a government statement, the summit provides an opportunity for establishing lasting partnerships with businesses to stimulate investment in the UK and instill the confidence necessary for driving economic growth. Additionally, Starmer is scheduled to convene the first Council of Nations and Regions in Scotland on Friday, bringing together leaders from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as regional mayors from across England. This gathering aims to discuss investment and growth initiatives leading up to the summit.
In conjunction with these efforts, the government recently announced a significant investment of £21.7 billion ($28 billion) in carbon capture projects, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable economic growth. The upcoming summit reflects the government’s strategic focus on fostering a conducive environment for international investors while addressing current economic challenges.
