Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently confirmed a significant offensive by Ukrainian forces into Russia’s western border region of Kursk, underscoring Ukraine’s determination to extend the conflict into the territory of the aggressor. Zelenskyy made this announcement during his Saturday evening address, where he commended the strategic operations carried out by the Ukrainian military.
During his speech, Zelenskyy highlighted the efforts of Army Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, noting that Syrsky had repeatedly briefed him on the progress at the frontline and the advancement of the war into Russian territory. The president expressed deep appreciation for the Ukrainian Defense Forces units involved in these operations, stating, “I am thankful to every unit of our Defence Forces that ensures this progress.”
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is proving its ability to “deliver justice” and apply the necessary “pressure on the aggressor,” a sentiment echoed throughout his address.
This Ukrainian offensive aligns with major developments in the region. Earlier on Saturday, Russian officials announced the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents from the border area, labeling the move a “counter-terror operation.”
In a related incident on early Sunday, at least 13 people sustained injuries, with two reported in serious condition, after debris from a missile intercepted by Russian forces fell in the city of Kursk. The acting governor of the Kursk region confirmed the injuries, marking yet another escalation in the conflict between the two nations.
As both sides continue to engage in military actions, the conflict’s intensity and its impact on civilian populations in the border areas continue to grow.
