British actress Florence Pugh has shared her intense experience of shaving her head for her latest movie role in “We Live in Time,” a heart-wrenching romance alongside Andrew Garfield. In an interview with British Vogue, Pugh revealed that the dramatic haircut triggered both physical and emotional responses, sending her body “into a bit of trauma.”
Pugh, known for her roles in “Oppenheimer,” “Dune: Part Two,” and “Little Women,” had to lose her hair to portray Almut, a figure skater-turned-chef, whose relationship with Garfield’s character takes a dramatic turn after a medical diagnosis. The 28-year-old actress described the experience as “really bizarre,” drawing parallels with cultural significance of hair in many religions, where it symbolizes memories, dreams, and history.
Following the shave, Pugh’s head was extremely sensitive, and she experienced constant coldness. Her co-star, Andrew Garfield, was tasked with shaving her head, an experience he described as both a “privilege” and “terrifying.” Pugh’s hair has since started to grow back, visible during her red carpet appearances for “Oppenheimer” in July 2023.
The actress also reflected on her personal life, revealing she is in a new relationship and prioritizing taking time to let it evolve naturally. Pugh previously dated actor Zach Braff, with their 21-year age gap attracting attention. She addressed the criticism, emphasizing her desire to protect her loved ones from harsh public scrutiny.
Pugh’s candid interview offers a glimpse into the emotional and physical challenges actors face for their craft, as well as the importance of maintaining personal boundaries in the public eye.
