Baku, Azerbaijan – On the sidelines of COP-29 in Baku, Qaiser Nawab, President of the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), held a pivotal meeting with Leyla Aliyeva, Founder of the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA).
During the meeting, Mr. Nawab presented Ms. Aliyeva with a special commemorative currency note issued on the 75th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, highlighting its symbolic relevance to climate action and sustainability. He commended Ms. Aliyeva’s visionary work under IDEA, which actively engages youth, children, and women in climate action initiatives.
“IDEA is a remarkable platform fostering a culture of dialogue among youth, children, and women to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. It is, in itself, a mini COP, setting an example for effective grassroots climate advocacy,” Mr. Nawab remarked.
Mr. Nawab also congratulated Ms. Aliyeva on Azerbaijan’s successes, including the recent victory in the war and the outstanding organization of COP-29, which he described as one of the most exemplary climate conferences to date.
In response, Ms. Aliyeva expressed gratitude for Mr. Nawab’s support and acknowledged his active participation in the IDEA tree plantation campaign during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in 2019. She praised his dedication to climate action and reiterated her commitment to continuing IDEA’s initiatives in Pakistan.
“Mr. Nawab’s contributions are invaluable. He inspires many, and I look forward to collaborating further with BRISD to empower youth and strengthen climate initiatives,” Ms. Aliyeva stated. She also expressed her intent to visit Pakistan, emphasizing the shared commitment of Azerbaijan and Pakistan to global sustainability.
This meeting marks a significant step in fostering international partnerships for climate action, as both leaders work towards a greener and more inclusive future.
